If you're willing to switch from pine to Mutt (an other text based
email client, much more powerful by the way)
Mutt can handle both Imap and Pop remote accounts.
If you're new to Mutt, note that the default editor may be vi (or vim)
depending on your configuration, but you can easily set it to pico
(the editor Pine uses) or anything else with for example
set editor="emacs -T xterm +6"
in your .muttrc
