I am running a rather similar system: Athlon 64 x2 4600+, GeForce 6200 
256mb, 21 in 1400x1050 Viewsonic LCD.  different mainboard, not the huge 
ram or hard disk or wireless, on Fedora 7.  Everything worked with a 
default install, no problems with X, and the 1400x1050 was supported 
with the Free drivers.  I have never used in, but I think Fedora has 
good support for raid.  The default 64 bit kernel for Fedora supports 
SMP (which you will want anyway since the 64 x2 is a dual core and that 
gets handled by SMP.

I think vmware will run on any distro, the only one I have used in on is 
debian.
