Sadly no, I did not get NetworkManager working. I gave it a half an hour of
my life and simply had to move on.
I do have two scripts that meet my needs that I am willing to share, with one
caveat: my system configuration currently doesn't automatically renew its
wireless DHCP lease.

You may want to start by taking a look at
<https://confluence.cornell.edu/display/NETADMINWIKI/RedRover-Secure+Linux>.
Which has a set of generic instructions for setting up RedRover using
wpa_supplicant (note that the "slave-mode" is supported by Gusty
Gibbon and is probably the easiest/best way to go).
I'm not sure if there is a way to setup RedRover using NetworkManager
(a graphical wireless network configuration tool which is included in
Gusty in default installs). Sean McFadden (sem72) asked about it a
month ago, but I'm not sure if he (or anyone else) figured out a way
to do it.
Cheers,
