Boot an Ubuntu live CD and see if all your bits and pieces are

Hello All,

I have acquired an HP Integrity rx2600 with 16GB of RAM (because
someone needed xmas money and they sold it to me for $600) Has dual
Itanium processors and about 400GB of HD space.

I would like to know what Linux distributions support this machine the
best. HP says RedHat Enterprise Edition, SUSE Enterprise Server,
HP/UX, OpenVMS and Windows 2003 Server Enterprise Edition. These are
all really expensive and I would like to find something different.

This machine will actually be my development machine as will need to
run VMWare or some other virtualization solution so I can keep things
separate. I have a lot of contracts right now for software development
work and I prefer that each have a separate VM instance to keep things
separate and organized.

Does anyone have thoughts?
