So no, for the general public, I'd suggest an Ubuntu Linux. The days of
Gnu/Linux being for the experience people are long gone.
The only place where I wouldn't suggest Linux is if the users (or admins!)
have a prior experience of Windows and cannot change / do not want to
change.

>I have been running a Linux Debian on various Mac machines and have bee=

>very happy with it. (I couldn't get what I wanted with MacOS X). De=

>be a little tricky to install and use, but Ubuntu has releases for PPC =

>I'd suggest installing Ubuntu onto these machines.

It's a reasonable idea for you, and maybe for me,
but the machines are going to the general public.
It they were sophisticated enough to want Linux (et al),
they'd probably be happy enough to purchase the
machines "sans" OS ;-)

However, most of our customers are ready for MacOS
or (gasp) some flavor of Windows...and nothing more.

We actually do have Linux machines running -- including
one Mac G4 tower -- for those who are interested!
Thanks
